1. Positioning Accuracy
In terms of accuracy, the linear guide transmission mechanism reduces the problem of interpolation lag. Positioning accuracy and repeatability accuracy are both better and easier to achieve through position detection feedback control compared to a rotary motor + ball screw.
2. Repeatability Accuracy Comparison
The transmission mechanism is simple, reducing the problem of interpolation lag. Conversely, the gap in the screw is easy to affect the accuracy, so the linear guide is easier to achieve high precision.
3. Speed Comparison
Generally, servo motors are subject to greater stress during high-speed operation due to centrifugal force, thus limiting their rotational speed and output power. In contrast, linear guides are not subject to such limitations and have no mechanical losses, thus increasing transmission speed.
4. Stroke Comparison
In terms of stroke, the stroke of a linear guide depends on the stator and mover; theoretically, a linear guide can be extended indefinitely. However, a servo guide + ball screw is typically limited to a length of 4 meters due to factors such as load bearing capacity, screw outer diameter, and accuracy grade.
5. Easy Maintenance
Linear guides have fewer components and contactless mechanical movement, requiring little to no maintenance. Servo motor ball screw structures have more components and require frequent maintenance or part replacement.
6. Lifespan Comparison
Linear Guide: Because there is no direct contact between the moving and fixed parts of a linear guide, there is no wear and tear from the high-speed movement of the mover. Even with prolonged use, there is no change in motion accuracy, resulting in a longer lifespan.
Servo Motor + Ball Screw: High-speed movement causes wear and tear on the transmission components of the ball screw, and accuracy cannot be ensured during high-speed reciprocating motion, thus affecting precision.
