Used in conjunction with linear bearings and shafts, these guides have a cylindrical appearance and can be fitted into circular holes. Linear bearings can also be used with sliders for planar mounting. Circular guides are convenient to install and use, saving space. Square guides consist of square sliders and square rails. From the perspective of friction and load-bearing capacity, square guides exhibit surface contact friction between the guide and slider, resulting in higher friction, uniform load distribution, and the need for frequent lubrication.
The choice between circular and square guides primarily depends on factors such as load, accuracy, rigidity, and surface finish. Square guides are typically used in the machine tool industry where high load capacity, rigidity, and accuracy are required. However, meeting these requirements often compromises other aspects, such as high installation demands, high initial costs, and high maintenance costs. Circular guides excel in these areas, maintaining smooth operation even on surfaces with less-than-perfect planarity. Circular guides generally offer faster installation and smoother operation compared to square guides.
